This is a call to support the petition against the ratification of the African Union Convention on the Confidence and Security in Cyberspace (AUCC)

The African Union has prepared a final draft of the AU Convention on the Establishment of a Credible Legal Framework for Cyber Security in Africa (“the AUCC”).

The AUCC is scheduled for final passage at an AU meeting in January 2014. The AUCC has substantial negative effects on the African on-line economy and social culture.

This petition seeks to incorporate peoples voices in calling for more stakeholder involvement before adoption.

The Draft Convention has broad sweeping provisions that may curtail certain fundamental rights.for example the provision under article III-I on racism and xenophobia will prevent people from sharing ideas on the issue. There should be certain limitations put in place.

Also focus should be on promoting continental cooperation (in Africa),since there will be issues on jurisdiction. Will offenders be extradited to a country where the offense was perpetrated? How will it work?
